March
1, 2008 - Russia's Alexander Kerzhakov completed his move from Sevilla
to DynamoMoscow ending weeks of speculation. The club already
announced that they signed a contract with the player until the end of the
Russian 2010 football season. The striker has already joined his new club
in
Holland for pre-season training exercises. In his 14 months with Sevilla
, Kerzhakov won three trophies - the UEFA Cup, Copa del Rey and the
Spanish Super Cup, scoring 14 goals in 37 appearances.
Despite his relatively short spell at Sevilla Kerzhakov admits that playing
for the club had very positive impact on him. He started very brightly scoring
goals,
including the winner against Barcelona. However, after departure of the head
coach Juande Ramos to Tottenham Hottspurs, Alexander was rearly selected
even in the absence of Fred Kanoute, who was busy playing for Mali at Africa
Cup, under new coach Manolo Jiménez.
He established himself as a player coming out of ranks in Zenit Saint-Petersburg,
bursting into Russian national team at the age of 19. played in World Cup
2002 in Korea and Japan. Kerzhakov's desire to be part of Guus Hiddink's
squad for the European Championships led him to agree to the 8m move
to
Dinamo Moscow.
Kerzhakov explained his decision by having better chances for first team
action here, which will keep the door open for him to be selected for the
national team. He was instrumental
throughout Russia's qualifing campaign, scoring 5 goals.
"The moment for me to go has come because my dream is to play in the Euro
2008 with Russia and just like when I came,
I have to continue to grow as a player," he added.
