Miroslav Brezan was born February 12th 1951. in Karlovac, where he finished Primary and Grammar
school. At the Pedagogical Academy (Zagreb) he become a Teacher of Physical Education and First Aid, and
at the University of Physical Education (Zagreb) he got the title Professor of Physical Education. From his early
youth he felt in love with sport and there is almost no sport activity in which he wasn’t involved.

From 1967 he started with taekwondo. He is one of the taekwondo pioneers in Croatia and Karlovac,  and a
founder of Taekwondo Club “Karlovac”. In those segments he achieved his biggest successes as an  active
sportsman, expert and sport official.

As a competitor he participated at two World (ITF, Montreal 1974 and WTF, Seoul 1975) and two European
ITF Taekwondo Championships (Stuttgart 1975 and Rotterdam 1976) and he was manifold representative and
champion of ex Yugoslavia.

Through the years he was a Trainer of all national selections, including 1988 former Yugoslavia Olympic
taekwondo team. With his obstinacy, self-sacrificing, devotion and giving himself up to sport he  educated many
excellent sportsmen (the best sportsmen in Croatia for 1994 - Marijeta Zeljkovic; Seoul 1988  Olympics ,
Drazen Perkovic, Robert Tomasevic; Sidney 2000 Olympics - Roman Livaja (competed for Sweden);

Athens 2004 Olympics - Zoran Prerad (competed for Bosnia and Herzegovina). As an International Referee he
was refereeing all the strongest and the biggest International Championships:  World Championships, European
Championships, European Cups, World Military Championships, World University  Championships, World
and continental Qualifications for the Olympics.

Thanks to all of that he got a Master degree, Black Belt 7th Dan (No.05001973 – 20 SEP.2000) and become
in International Referee, 1st Class WTF (021-0952). At the same time he is an International ETU Poomse Referee,
1st Class. He was a member of the Croatian Olympic Committee, Ex Co member of Karlovac City Sport
Association in three mandates and Ex Co member of County of Karlovac Sport Association in two mandates. He
was a member of Referee  and Marketing Board of ETU, for many years the Vice President of Croatian
Taekwondo Union, for many years the  president of Croatian Referee Committee, the President of Taekwondo
Association of The County of Karlovac,  Sports Director of Taekwondo Club “Karlovac”, President of Judo
Club “Karlovac” and the acting founder and President of Sword Club “Karlovac.

He was rewarded for contribution and development of sport by the Croatian Olympic Committee, World
Taekwondo  Federation and European Taekwondo Union as well as by the Croatian Taekwondo Union,
Karlovac Sport Association  (life reward) and by the County of Karlovac Sport Association. He also received a
Gold Plaque from ETU.

U americkom gradu Teanecku održana svecanost prijema
u "Taekwondo kucu slavnih"

             
     

Clanovi Taekwondo kluba "Karlovac" Miroslav Brežan i Marijeta Željkovic – Celic
primljeni su u petak u "Taekwondo Hall of Fame" ili u prijevodu "Taekwondo kucu slavnih".

Svecanost je održana u gradu Teanecku u americkoj državi New Jerseyu gdje "Taekwondo Hall of Fame"
ima sjedište. Miroslav Brežan cast ulaska u "Kucu slavnih" zaslužio je dugogodišnjim djelovanjem u taekwondou,
dakle nešto kao nagrada za životno djelo. Marijeta Željkovic – Celic zaslužila je ovo znacajno priznanje kao
istaknuta hrvatska reprezentativka. Odmah nakon svecanosti, Miroslav Brežan javio se mobitelom iz Teanecka.

- Napokon sam i stambeno zbrinut. Od sada je moja adresa "Taekwondo Hall of Fame". Šalim se, no zaista
sam uzbuden, bio je to za nas veliki dogadaj. Ovo je za naš klub, te naravno za Marijetu i mene veliko priznanje,
istaknuo je Brežan.

Odlazak Miroslava Brežana i Marijete Željkovic – Celic u Ameriku financijski je pomogao grad Karlovac. (b.o.)
