
March 11, 2000 - The Chicago Fire and MetroStars met in an exhibition match tonight at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex in Virginia Beach, VA. Chicago defeated the MetroStars, 2-0, in the final tune up for the 2000 MLS season.
The MetroStars, home team for the evening, and the Fire played to a scoreless half. In the 73rd minute, the Fire's Josh Wolff took a pass from Dema Kovalenko that misdirected MetroStar keeper Tim Howard, giving Wolff an open net and putting Chicago up, 1-0. Twelve minutes later, Ante Razov scored on a cross to give the Fire a two-goal lead en route to the win.
The MetroStar keepers, Mike Ammann (three saves) and Tim Howard (two saves), each played 45 minutes. Midfielder Tab Ramos made his first appearance of the preaseason in the 60th minute replacing Miles Joseph.
Chicago's Greg Sutton was in goal for the entire match and only needed one save for the victory. The Fire outshot the Metros, 15 to 8.
