METROSTARS, MUTINY AUTOGRAPHED NASL JERSEYS GO UP FOR
AUCTION ON
eBAY
All proceeds to benefit U.S. Soccer Foundation
SECAUCUS, NJ (April
25, 2001) - The retro NASL-style jerseys worn during this past Saturdays
game between the MetroStars and the Tampa Bay Mutiny, each one autographed
by all players from both teams as well as by close to 40 former North American
Soccer League players, will go up for
auction
on eBay this Thursday, April 26.
Proceeds from the sale of each jersey (there are 40 jerseys in all) will go directly to the U.S. Soccer Foundation to help the growth of the sport in the United States. The U.S. Soccer Federation will also make a matching donation, equal to those proceeds, to the Foundation.
NASL Reunion Weekend at Giants Stadium brought back some of the most popular players in that leagues history, including Brazilian legend Carlos Alberto, Teofilo Nene Cubillas, Shep Messing, Werner Roth and many others.
The MetroStars announced during the weekend that they will now annually honor
the history of the NASL, and professional soccer in the New York/New Jersey
area, on the weekend surrounding the second home game of each future season.
