It was a goal by Joe-Max Moore that shut out Kansas City in the 40th minute of play.  The goal was initiated by a cross pass by defender Mike Burns. The best  scoring opportunity for the Wizards came when player-coach Walter Zenga saved a header attempted by Vincente Figueroa.
