South African FA set to agree bid for 2010

South African football officials are expected to agree to formally enter the race to host the FIFA 2010 World Cup TM. The national executive committee of the South African Football Association (SAFA) is expected to give the go ahead in Port Elizabeth for another campaign to bring the FIFA World Cup TM to South Africa after the failed bid to host the 2006 finals.

"There is no question about whether we are going to bid or not, what we have to really decide is what form and structures we have to put in place," explained SAFA chief executive officer Danny Jordaan. Officials have proposed that SAFA forms a separate bid company as it did for the 2006 campaign in which South Africa lost a controversial vote to Germany last year. There are also suggestions the bid process should be kept within the structures of SAFA, Jordaan said. "The executive will have to decide between these two points of view," he added.

Morocco have already confirmed their entry into the race for 2010 - their fourth bid to win the right to host the FIFA World Cup TM finals - while Egypt and Tunisia last week also expressed an interest in bidding for the 2010 tournament.
