2002 FIFA WORLD CUP: GUATEMALA VS. BELIZE QUALIFYING MATCHES TO BE PLAYED ON NEUTRAL GROUND

Zürich, 10 March 2000 - The two 2002 World Cup qualifying matches between Belize and Guatemala will be played on neutral ground. The Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup, chaired by Lennart Johansson, took this decision together with CONCACAF, because of the currently dangerous border situation between the two countries.

The first match will be played as originally scheduled on 19 March 2000 in Panama. The second match is also likely to be played in the same location on 21 May 2000. As Panama will have a World Cup match of their own on the 21 May, it is probable that the two matches will be held as a double header.
