Zürich, 7 September 1999 - The President of FIFA, Sepp Blatter, met today in Zurich with the President of the Asian Football Confederation, H.R.H. Sultan Shah, to discuss the question of Asian representation in the finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan.
Following the meeting at FIFA House, President Blatter said : "I am very happy about the outcome of this meeting with His Royal Highness. Unity in football has been restored and remains our priory objective in the future. We can look forward to the FIFA World Cup in Japan and Korea being a resounding success."
The AFC President said : "I am happy to have been able to resolve the differences
between FIFA and my Confederation regarding the number of seats for the 2002
finals. Now we can move forward together for the good of the game in Asia,
and devote our full attention to the success of the World Cup, which will
be held in our continent for the first time at the start of the new
millennium."
