Ronaldo intends long stay in Brazil

Feb 12, 2002 -  Ronaldo says he will stay in Brazil for at least another month to recover from injury.

The 25 year old Internazionale striker defied orders to return to the Milan club this week following a thigh strain that saw him arrive in Rio de Janeiro at the start of February ahead of the carnival season.

Inter relented and allowed the striker to work on recovering his fintess with the Brazil national team doctor Jose Luiz Runco and his personal trainer Nilton Petrone.

Ronaldo told reporters that he is likely to stay in Brazil for the whole of February and says he wants Vasco da Gama veteran Romario with him in the World Cup .

I'm going to ask Felipao (national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari) to pick me, then I'm going to ask the same for Romario."

Ronaldo is having physiotherapy and heat treatment to try and cure a muscular problem in his thigh which could also be related to hamstring difficulties.

The striker missed last week's friendly win for Brazil in Riyadh against Saudi Arabia and is running out of time to be fit for the end of May.

Inter fear the CBF want Ronaldo to miss the rest of the Italian season to ensure his fitness for the World Cup finals.
