Argentina name World Cup squad

World Cup favourites Argentina have named their 23-man squad with Glasgow Rangers veteran Claudio Caniggi's inclusion confirmed. Caniggi revived his career at Dundee last year before moving to Rangers last summer and more success. He is set to play in his third finals after helping Argentina reach the 1990 final and returning along with great friend Diego Maradona to the 1994 squad after a ban for cocaine use.

The South Americans are the heavyweights in the "Group of Death" with England, Nigeria and Sweden.

The squad in full - Goalkeepers - German Burgos (Atletico Madrid), Pablo Cavallero (Celta Vigo) and Roberto Bonano (FC Barcelona).

Defenders - Jose Chamot (AC Milan), Walter Samuel (AS Roma), Mauricio Pochettino

(Paris Saint Germain), Diego Placente (Bayer Leverkusen) and Roberto Ayala (Valencia).

Midfielders - Diego Simeone (SS Lazio), Javier Zanetti (Internazionale), Marcelo Gallardo (AS Monaco), Claudio Husain (SS Napoli), Juan Sebastian Veron (Manchester United), Matias Almeyda (Parma AC), Cristian Gonzales (Valencia), Pablo Aimar (Valencia), Gustavo Lopez (Celta Vigo) and Juan Pablo Sorin (Cruzeiro).

Strikers - Gabriel Batistuta (AS Roma), Hernan Crespo (SS Lazio), Ariel Ortega (River

Plate), Claudio Lopez (SS Lazio) and Claudio Caniggia (Rangers).
