France Defeated by Senegal at World Cup 2002 Finals Opener

Seoul Korea - May 31, 2002 -  The defending champs France suffered a stunning defeat at the hands
of Senegal in the 17th World Cup finals. France created numerous scoring opportunities but could not
pull it out.  At the conclusion of the match, the French coach and players praised their opponent

Disil Cissi (FRA) forward stated " I am a litle disapointed, but there are two matches remaining. We must
put out everything on these two matches but we have the resources to do so. Senegal played well and we hit
the goalpost twice.  I tried to do my best, but I don't want to judge my personal performance.

Marcel Desailly (FRA) remarked: (On France's performance) : .David Trezeguet (FRA) was at a point where
he almost caused danger to Senegal. We made mistakes in movements and tactics. Our play was rather slow."

"They defendeed very well in their owb half. and our change of tactics did not make any difference against such
team.
