FIFA General Secretary visits OC and DFB

Wednesday 23 April 2003, a delegation of FIFA and FIFA Marketing AG headed by Urs Linsi, General Secretary of football’s world governing body FIFA met the 2006 FIFA World Cup Organising Committee Germany at its new offices. The meeting marked the first official visit of the new OC headquarters since they moved into the first floor of the extended DFB offices at the beginning of the month.

Members of the FIFA administration were struck by just how smoothly preparations for the 2006 World Cup in Germany are progressing. “I’m impressed by the purposefulness, precision and high tempo of the OC’s preparations. I’m particularly pleased to see that the co-operation between all partners from FIFA, FIFA Marketing AG and the Organising Committee is running like clockwork”, said Linsi at the meeting with OC vice-presidents Horst R. Schmidt, Wolfgang Niersbach and Fedor H. Radmann.

Thomson, currently head of FIFA Marketing AG’s legal department, will take over the reigns of the company on 1 May 2003. He highlighted the constructive spirit of the discussions as a highly promising start to his extended responsibilities. One of his next duties will be to formalise the partnership programme with the twelve FIFA World Cup Host Cities. Further details on this matter will be discussed with representatives of the cities and stadia at the next workshop on 19 May in Frankfurt.

other marketing aspects, in particular co-ordination with Official Partners and Official Suppliers, there were a number of strategic talking points on the agenda, namely ticketing, accommodation and hospitality. Discussions on tournament organisation turned to the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2005. On the events side, FIFA received a status report on the monthly Countdown evenings, and in particular, an overview of the stepped-up preparations for the draw for the qualifying groups to be made on 5 December 2003 in Frankfurt’s Festhalle.
