MIYAGI



Miyagi prefecture is situated 300 km northeast of Tokyo and is the centre of the Tohoku region.  Sendai City which has the newly-built stadium for the 2002 FIFA World Cuptm , orginally prospered as a base for General Masamune Date (1557- 1636), who weilded power in the Tohoju area and it has nowadays become a core city of the area's commerce and industry.  Miyagi has various sightseeing attractions including traditional folk craft products like the wooden Kokeshi dolls, a historical site of the famous Haiku poet Basho Matsuo and excellent hot springs.
