OSAKA


Osaka,  located  near the geographical heart of Japan , has been a major port and mercantile centre from the beginning of Japan's history. In the 16th century Osaka rose in prominence when general Hideyoshi Toyotomi chose Osaka as the site of his castle.  After that, the city quickly grew to become the busiest merchant centre. Since the Meiji era, it has become a base to promote the modernization of Japan, and alongside Tokyo has contributed greatly to the developement of the Japanese ecomomy in the terms of finance , industry and commerce.
